A Christmas Holiday Wrap Up

I believe our Christmas was a success, even though we had a slight kink in our plans (our debit card being stolen.) We ended up learning lessons we never thought we would learn this soon and making memories that will last a lifetime.

This Holiday season was definitely busy. We made one trip to Branson. Visited family in NWA, and then enjoyed our second Christmas together as a family in our home with my mom, dad, and two brothers.

Eden truly enjoyed Christmas this year. Her reactions Christmas morning were priceless. I’m going to brag a little bit more and say that her vocabulary has increased quite a bit this holiday season. I say that to tell you how wonderful it is to understand what she needs without her having a meltdown every time she tries to tell us something. Communicating can be a little hard for a toddler.

Now that Christmas is over (I’m a little sad because I love Christmas decorations) I’m ready to ring in the New Year. I’m ready for a whole new start, as I like to think of the new year in that way.
I’m ready to be a better encourager
More thoughtful
More spiritual, prayerful, and praiseful
More evolved in my church
An even better mom then I might have been this past year
Same goes for being a better wife and homemaker (which I enjoy more then anything)
Finishing my Social Work degree through Harding
I’m also ready to buckle down and lose my baby stomach (This has been on my list a while, It’s just so hard to rid myself from nasty junk food…will power I know!)

Those are just a few things I can think of off the top of my head I would like to commit myself to doing.

I feel so blessed to have a wonderful support system. So feel free to chime in once and a while and ask me how my commitments are going.

I hope you all have a blessed week.

A Kilpatrick Family Christmas Party

Yesterday was our Kilpatrick family Christmas party. Let it be known that when our families get together there are bound to be lots of laughs...and that we did. I really enjoyed being around all our family, eating, talking, and playing games. Isn’t family the greatest? I think so!

Here are a few pictures of our fun afternoon.

An attempt to take a good family picture

Ok, this is a little better

Cousin Kim & one of the twins (Oliva), Aunt Marilyn, Madison, and K

And this was our entertainment for the night. Needless to say it didn't get old.

In the spirit of Christmas

Has a story ever been told to you that makes you tear up and then makes you want to share that story with others? Well, it happened to me today on the way back home.

As most of you know my husbands a DPS officer for the state of Texas. He absolutely loves his job, which makes me feel good knowing that he enjoys going to work everyday. Well, one of the perks of being a DPS officer is not just taking people to jail, but helping others.

Pictures from last year (But you get the point)

Yesterday, as Andrew was driving down the highway he noticed a young man walking along side of it, so he stopped. After patting him down for weapons (you can never be too careful) and finding only 20 cents (which is all the guy had as far as money), he asked the young man how old he was and what he was doing walking down the highway. The guy told Andrew he was 19 and trying to make his way to Little Rock, AR and had come to Texarkana, TX from Long View, TX by hitch hiking, with just a light jacket on and a backpack of his possessions. Andrew then asked him why he was making his way to Little Rock. The guy said, because my mom left me and my brother moved in with his girlfriend and didn’t want me around, and the only person that does want me is my grandma who lives in Little Rock. My heart just melted for the guy. The people who should love him the most abandoned him. Andrew quickly made a call to a guy who is a minister at a nearby church who helps people out in situations like this, and the minister was more then willing to help. The minister was able to provide a meal for this kid who hadn’t eaten in a while and a bus ticket to Little Rock. How awesome! After the phone call to the minister, Andrew broke the good news to this guy, who was very appreciative. Andrew said the guy started crying when he told him, which in return brought me to tears. What a good feeling it must have been to that young man knowing that he didn’t have to walk the rest of the way to Little Rock (which is another two hours by car and who knows how much longer by foot) in this cold weather. I ask Andrew if it made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside for helping a guy like that, and of course his response was, well yeah! Like I didn’t know that his response would be yes. HAHA! I guess that’s a girl for you, you know, wanting to know the feelings side of things.

I just wanted to share that story with you all, being that it’s almost Christmas and really that’s what Christmas is about, giving and in return not expecting anything.

Getting in the Christmas spirit

This will be Eden’s second Christmas go around, which I’m really excited about. She understands a little more what the Christmas Holiday is about. She can spot a Santa Claus from a mile away and can sing Alvin and the Chipmunks and Santa Claus is Coming to Town like nobody’s business.

She loves to look at Christmas lights. Every time we go by a building or a house with lights on it she says, “WOW”!

This girl has got some mad dance skills too, if you didn’t already know.

I love to see her face light up, that’s for sure. One of the things she loves more then anything is Scooter the Elf. Scooter is the present “Santa” sent her after Thanksgiving. Scooter is no ordinary elf. (Like elf’s are ordinary or something), but Scooter sits on the shelf and watches to see if Eden is being naughty or nice. We can’t touch Scooter, OH NO, because if we do he’ll lose his Christmas magic, and then he won’t be able to fly to the North Pole during the night to tell Santa the news of the day. When Scooter arrives after a long flight from the North Pole, he takes a new place on a shelf somewhere. Eden loves this. It’s a game to her. So every morning when she wakes up guess what she wants to do? Yep, find Scooter.
I didn’t really think that she would get the idea of what Scooter does, but she’s surprised me once again and I’m so happy she enjoys this game. So now every year Scooter will come to visit right after Thanksgiving and then leave Christmas Eve.
It’s such a wonderful tradition!
